You are dust and unto dust you shall return

You are dust and unto dust you shall return

Day 1: Ash Wednesday:

The Church, on the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday, distributes ashes made from palms blessed the previous year. They are rubbed on the clergy and on the foreheads of the laity in the form of the cross, by a priest who recites the following words, “Remember man, that you are dust and unto dust you shall return,” words based on those addressed by God to Adam after the fall (Gen. 3:19). Dictionary of the Bible, Welcome to the Catholic Church CD ROM, 2006.

From dust we came into being, to dust we shall return… What is man that God should care for us?  Right here, right now, a profound humility should be before you ready to be embraced.  We are dust, and yet, God so LOVED us that He made us in His own image (Gen 1:26) even though our selves is mere common clay.  God breathed life into us (Gen 2:7), and because of His GREAT LOVE we can do GREAT THINGS.  But without His GREAT LOVE, we can do nothing!

Speak with WORDs of LOVE (Prayer) : Lord, I know that I am made from dust, but I also know that because YOU breathed Your Life in me, and made me after Your own image, that I have a value beyond price.  It’s because of YOU and Your GREAT LOVE that I am.  Help me to return to You the LOVE You have so freely given me!  In the Name of Jesus, I pray.
