“Prepare Ye the way of the Lord”…

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on March 28, 2009

Now that we are in the last three weeks of Lent, I thought I might be appropriate to provide a summary of the writings that have presented themselves over the last few weeks pertaining to the readings at daily Mass.

Remember, Lent IS a time of preparation.  But in this day and age it is safe to state, THIS LENT SPECIFICALLY is a time of preparation as the Church approaches her Passion:

[Jesus] answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.’ 3 And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times… Mt 16:2-3

32  “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. ~Mt 24:32-33

37 As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of man. ~Mt 24:37-39

43 But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. ~Mt 24:43-44

36 But watch at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of man.” ~ Luke 21:36 (cf. Rev 7:13-17)

So, the readings listed below remind us of the need for repentance from our sins, the need to frequent the sacrament of Reconciliation – especially in these final days of Lent as this Sacrament is traditionally made more readily available.  See each as they are given by our Loving Father who only chastises those whom He calls His own.

11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. ~Prov 3:12

19 Those whom I love, I reprove and chastise. Be earnest, therefore, and repent. ~Rev 3:19

Therefore, we should HOPE in the Lord, for His mercy is overflowing and His Love knows NO BOUNDS.  As a Father welcomes home his wayward son (cf.  Lk 11:15-31), so much more will the God of the universe welcome home wayward sinners who cry out to Him for Mercy!

Today I opened my bible…

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on March 22, 2009

First written on March 22, 2009.  Are not the words contained within alive and active in our world today, 2011?

As my favorite Catholic writer recently stated on his blog…

I am speaking of the castrophic events unfolding hourly in Japan; the growing threat of nuclear war with Iran; the rise of a new currency and coming collapse of the American economy; the growing international food crisis; the soaring price of fuel; the ongoing mass deaths of animals and bees worldwide; the increasing number of large earthquakes; the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases; the alarming intervention of the State in religious and personal freedom; the genetic meddling with our species; and the rapid decline of moral values. It has many Christians I know fasting and weeping… while others are yawning as they flip through the channels of the dumb-box. What a remarkable sign of the times! ~Mark Mallett, Wisdom and the Convergence of Chaos, April 12, 2011.

These are in deed “remarkable signs of the times”, especially since now (May, 2011), these events and multiplied exponentially throwing all we know into an out-of-control spin that will ONLY CEASE when we turn back to God and REPENT of our waywardness.

…hoping to find some comfort and peace.  I commented to Our Lord, “People don’t want to hear about death and pending destruction,”

Hosea 6: 1-3

“Come let us return to the LORD; for He has torn, that He may heal us; He has stricken, and He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live before Him. Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD; His going forth is sure as the dawn; He will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”

But the Lord’s response, though gentle and loving, was clear and serious…

Hosea 6: 4-5

What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away. Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of My mouth, and My judgment goes forth as the light.

“Death and destruction are the harvest this present generation must reap, for it is what they and the generation has sown before them.  There is nothing I can do to prevent their choice.”

Hosea 6: 6-11

For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God, rather than burnt offerings.

But at Adam they transgressed the covenant; there they dealt faithlessly with me.  Gilead is a city of evildoers, tracked with blood.

As robbers lie in wait for a man, so the priests are banded together; they murder on the way to Shechem, yea, they commit villainy.

In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; Ephraim’s harlotry is there, Israel is defiled.  For you also, O Judah, a harvest is appointed.

God went on in scripture to remind me of what I already knew:  The Culture that breeds Death only knows Death, and DEATH is their only fruit. And yet, God also presents us with HOPE if only we would return to Him!

Hosea 6: 11b-7:1

When I would restore the fortunes of My people, when I would heal Israel, the corruption of Ephraim is revealed, and the wicked deeds of Samaria; for they deal falsely, the thief breaks in, and the bandits raid without.

Why is it, that people believe that God will not punish for crimes committed against His sacred gift of life?  Why do we believe that if we worship God with our mouths but act with the treachery of Satan (for he was a murder from the beginning… cf John 8:44b), that we will not be responsible for our choices and actions that have proved we do not truly worship or love God (“Not all who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter into the kingdom of heaven…” cf Mt 7:21a)?

Hosea 7: 2-3, 4a, 6-7

But they do not consider that I remember all their evil works. Now their deeds encompass them, they are before My face. By their wickedness they make the king glad, and the princes by their treachery.

They are all adulterers; they are like a heated oven,…

For like an oven their hearts burn with intrigue; all night their anger smolders; in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.  All of them are hot as an oven, and they devour their rulers. All their kings have fallen; and none of them calls upon me.

So, what is God to do with us?  When we do not listen to Him or to His prophets that He has called to remind us of our pending destruction from our sins (Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide, Murdering the Unborn)?

Hosea 7: 12-13, 14-15

As they go, I will spread over them My net; I will bring them down like birds of the air; I will chastise them for their wicked deeds.

Woe to them, for they have strayed from Me! Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against Me! I would redeem them, but they speak lies against Me.

They do not cry to Me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves, they rebel against Me.  Although I trained and strengthened their arms, yet they devise evil against Me.

If these writings make you uncomfortable, imagine how much more so will your feelings of discomfort will increase when all these things begin to pass 100 fold, right before your eyes?  Will you then begin to ask yourself, “Why was I not better prepared for this?”

Special Note: The majority of these last posts have originated from the prophets of Israel that foretold of the coming of the Christ – Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and now Hosea.

How much more appropriate is it, then, that God would once again make use of their faithful service to speak to His people before the RETURN of His Son, Jesus the Christ, Son of the living God?  For even Christ reminded His people while He was on earth: Mt 12: 40-41

For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.  The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
