Come Holy Spirit!!!

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on May 27, 2012

Come Lord Jesus, send US YOUR SPIRIT!

Evening Prayer II: The Ascension of the Lord : READING: 1 Peter 3: 18, 21-22 (emphasis added)

The REASON why Christ died for sins once and for all, the Just Man for the sake of the unjust, was that He might lead us to God.

He was put to death insofar as fleshly existence goes, but was given life in the realm of the Spirit.

You are now saved by a baptismal bath which corresponds to this EXACTLY.  The baptism is no removal of physical stain, but the PLEDGE to God of an IRREPROACHABLE CONSCIENCE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He went to heaven and is at God’s right hand, with angelic rulers and powers subject to Him.

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

Brothers and Sisters in Christ!  YOU who have prayed in earnest the Novena (9 days) to the Holy Spirit are NOW TRANSFORMED…

Does not Peter – the fisherman whom Christ gave the keys of heaven and made him head of His Holy Church (cf Mt 16: 17-19) – tell us so in the above passage?

You are now saved by a baptismal bath which corresponds to this EXACTLY.  The baptism is no removal of physical stain, but the PLEDGE to God of an IRREPROACHABLE CONSCIENCE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

By Christ’s death and resurrection and ascension into heaven, we RECEIVE His GIFT – the Holy Spirit!  The Holy Spirit does not dwell in someone who is “dead”… but in someone who is ALIVE…  Someone who is TRANSFORMED…

Morning Prayer: Thursday: Seventh Week of Easter: READING : Romans 8: 10-11 (emphasis added)

If Christ is in you, the body is DEAD because of SIN, while the Spirit LIVES because of JUSTICE.  If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead DWELLS IN YOU, then He who raised Jesus from the dead WILL BRING your MORTAL BODIES TO LIFE also, through His Spirit DWELLING IN YOU.

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

And as YOU have RECEIVED the GIFTS of the Holy Spirit AND the Fruits of the Holy Spirit

May Christ dwell in your hearts through FAITH…

Evening Prayer: Wednesday: Week III: READING: Ephesians 3: 17-21 (emphasis added)

May Christ DWELL in your HEARTS through FAITH, and may CHARITY be the ROOT and FOUNDATION of YOUR LIFE.

Thus you will be able to GRASP FULLY, with all the holy ones, the breadth and length and height and depth of CHRIST’S LOVE, and EXPERIENCE this LOVE which SURPASSES all KNOWLEDGE, so that YOU may ATTAIN to the FULLNESS OF CHRIST.

To Him whose power now at work IN US can DO immeasurably more than we ask OR imagine – to Him BE GLORY in the Church and in Christ Jesus through ALL GENERATIONS, world without end. AMEN!

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

(See how much more complete YOUR experience with Sacred Scripture is when praying daily with the Christian Prayer?)

All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer…

For just like the Apostles in former times, as they gathered with the disciples and women of their group to pray…

All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and with His brethren. ~Acts 1:14

So to have YOU done with many around the world, in one accord YOU have PRAYED and ASKED the Holy Spirit to come upon YOU.  So has He done, thus…

Evening Prayer: Thursday: Week III: READING: 1 Peter 3:8-12 (emphasis added)

All of YOU should be LIKE-MINDED, sympathetic, LOVING towards ONE ANOTHER, kindly disposed, and humble.

DO NOT return evil for evil or insult for insult. RETURN A BLESSING instead.  This YOU have BEEN CALLED to do, that YOU may RECEIVE a BLESSING as YOUR INHERITANCE.

“He who cares for life and wants to see prosperous days MUST keep his tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit.  He MUST turn from evil and DO GOOD, seek peace and follow after it…

For the Lord has eyes for the JUST and ears FOR THEIR CRY; BUT against EVIL DOERS the LORD SETS HIS FACE.” (Ps 34:12-16)

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

Which side will YOU be on?

All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer…

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.  And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind; and it filled the house where they were sitting.  And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, parted and rested on each one of them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit… ~Acts 2: 1-4a

12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit…Chastity

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on May 17, 2012

The “Plum” of them all!

We have reached the end… the final of the 12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit…

The previous eleven Fruits are …

Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, GoodnessBenignity, Long Suffering, Mildness and Faith, Modesty and Continence.

The Twelfth Fruit of the Holy Spirit: CHASTITY

(12) Chastity – Helps one guard his/her senses so that they will not cause him/her to sin; it helps one regard his/her own body and those of others as temple of the Holy Spirit.

Companion To: Counsel and Wisdom

The virtue of chastity comes under the cardinal virtue of temperance, which seeks to  permeate the passions and appetites of the senses with reason. ~ CCC§2341

CHASTITY is also…

1. A moral virtue which rightly regulates all voluntary use of the generative faculty AND forbids misuse of that faculty for the sake of sexual pleasure.

In unmarried persons, the virtue of chastity demands total abstinence from the use of the generative faculty and the venereal pleasure attached

…not because pleasure is evil but because this faculty is rightly used only in the married  state.

For the married, chastity means using the generative faculty according to its nature and refraining from such misuses of it as adultery, birth control, etc.

Sometimes in the New Testament the word chaste is used as practically equivalent to Virtuous (1 Pet. 3:2) but more usually it refers specifically to the virtue of chastity properly so called (2 Cor. 11:2; Tit. 2:5). ~ Encyclopedic Dictionary, Welcome to the Catholic Church, CD-ROM, emphasis added

It is because of this state…

The moral virtue which, under the cardinal virtue of temperance, provides for the successful integration of sexuality within the person leading to the inner unity of the bodily and spiritual being. ~Glossary of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, emphasis added

Charity is the form of all the virtues. Under its influence, chastity appears as a school of the gift of the person. Self-mastery is ordered to the gift of self. Chastity leads him who practices it to become a witness to his neighbor of God’s fidelity and loving kindness. ~ CCC§2346, emphasis added

In other words, when we embrace CHASTITY we embrace all the other Fruits of the Spirit that allow our lives to live in CHARITY – that is – LOVE – Who is GOD (cf 1Jn 4:8).

We also can do as Christ commanded us, “Love your neighbor as yourself “ (Mt 22:39)…

The virtue of chastity blossoms in friendship. It shows the disciple how to follow and imitate Him who has chosen us as His friends (cf. Jn 15:15), who has given Himself totally to us and allows us to participate in His divine estate. Chastity is a promise of immortality.

Chastity is expressed notably in friendship with ones neighbor. Whether it develops between persons of the same or opposite sex, friendship represents a great good for all. It leads to spiritual communion. ~ CCC§2347, emphasis added

For all Believers in Christ are taught…

All the baptized are called to chastity. The Christian has “put on Christ” (Gal 3:27), the model for all chastity.  All Christ’s faithful are called to lead a chaste life in keeping with their particular states of life. At the moment of his Baptism, the Christian is pledged to lead his affective life in chastity. ~ CCC§2348, emphasis added

For I am jealous of you with the jealousy of God, since I betrothed you to one husband to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. ~2 Cor 11:2

Therefore…

“There are three forms of the virtue of chastity:

– the first is that of spouses,

– the second that of widows,

– and the third that of virgins.

We do not praise any one of them to the exclusion of the others. . . . This is what makes for the richness of the discipline of the Church.” ~St. Ambrose, De viduis 4, 23 (cf. CCC§2349)

Tomorrow the Novena (nine days of prayer) to the Holy Spirit begins!

4 Cardinal Virtues

1)Prudence – the correct knowledge of things to be done or avoided

2) Justice – a habitual inclination of the will to give everyone his or her rightful due

3) Fortitude – a firmness of spirit or steadiness of the will to do good despite the obstacles found in our daily life.

4) Temperance – moderates the desire for pleasure and restrains the inordinate movements of our desires or appetites
