Novena to the Holy Spirit… Day One

Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit…Come and Receive!

Over the last month I have covered the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the 12 Fruits (of those Gifts) of the Holy Spirit.  Today we begin a Novena (9 days of prayer), to ask the Holy Spirit for ALL of these gifts in time for Pentecost – Sunday, May 24th, 2015

***This Novena is not to be taken lightly!***

Your heart MUST be SINCERE in your DESIRE to RECEIVE the gifts that the Father so generously wishes to bestow on YOU.  For the Son of God even tells us about the Father’s generosity…

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened… If you …who are evil, know how to give good gifts… how much MORE will your Father who is in heaven give GOOD THINGS to those who ask Him!” ~Mt 7: 7-8, 11

Therefore YOU MUST prepare YOUR HEART to receive the gifts God wishes to bestow on you during these next nine (9) days.  And I might add, with all that is upon us, to have the Holy Spirit as YOUR GUIDE and COUNSELOR will be beyond any blessing imagined.  The suffering all will endure in the days to come will seem but a moment and GREAT JOY will possess the soul who possesses God’s Gifts!

Come Holy Spirit …

O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul. I adore You, enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should do. Give me Your orders.  I promise to submit myself to all that You desire of me, and to accept all that You permit to happen to me.  Let me only know Your Will.

(Each day will begin with the preparatory prayer followed by a moment of silent prayer, continuing on  with the day’s intention, and closing with the prayer combination that Honors the Holy Trinity.)

For the Holy Spirit

Only one thing is important — eternal salvation. Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared–sin.

Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love.

With His sevenfold gifts He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with love of God.

To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for “…the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And He who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the Will of God.” (Romans 8: 26-27)

Almighty and eternal God, Who hast vouchsafed to regenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and hast given us forgiveness of all sins, vouchsafe to send forth from heaven, upon us, your sevenfold Spirit – the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.  Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.  Now and at the hour of our death. Amen! (3x)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen!

Why does this HONOR the Holy Trinity?

Because, “Mary conceived [Jesus] by the power of the Holy Spirit”, thus making the Holy Spirit her spouse; and whenever Mary is invoked, the Holy Spirit – her Spouse – is sure to follow.

She IS the mother of Jesus – the Son of God – and a Son’s love for His Mother runs VERY DEEP – see Judith 15:9 and 1Kings 2:19-20

It WAS the FATHER who preserved Mary from the stain of original sin – CCC§ 491-92, so that she might be the PURE and IMMACULATE MOTHER of His “only begotten Son”.

So, in a total way, we have just HONORED the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit by simply asking for one PERSON’S intercession – that is Mary, the Mother of God.

By adding the Glory Be:

We conclude with WORSHIPING the DIVINE TRINITY – the HIGHEST HONOR any creature can give to their CREATOR.  How much more, then, would the Holy Trinity answer our prayers?
