Circumcision of Jesus – Part II

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on December 31, 2013

Greetings!: This is a continuation of an Advent reflection as seen from the eyes of the Mother of the Redeemer, the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Please refer to the first post in this series: INTRODUCTION if you are a first time reader.

———————————————————————-

Note: In this as in other great mysteries of the Blessed Virgin’s life which she herself described to the mystics, quotations from her own words are printed in italics.

[Biblical Passages will follow in BOLD black print when they apply.]

Chapter 15 continued…

"And you shall call His name, Jesus, for He will save His people..."

“And you shall call His name, Jesus, for He will save His people…”

On the eighth day therefore, after having duly prepared everything in the stable, St. Joseph went to Bethlehem and returned with a dignified elderly priest… At first, the priest was somewhat astonished and shocked at the…poverty of the Holy Family’s home.  But the young Mother of God welcomed him with modesty and grace that he was soon moved to deep respect and devotion toward such a saintly person.

And at the end of eight days, when He was circumcised, He was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. ~Luke 2:21

The ceremony was to take place at the entrance grotto, not far from the crib. St. Joseph lighted two candles and the priests began to recite some prayers…[Mary] meekly requested to be allowed to stay and to hold her Son in her arms, as she did not wish to leave Him at such a moment…The priest consented…

…sitting down [Mary] spread…out…[a] towel on her lap, [and] placed her Child on it, and the priest then proceeded to perform the ceremony of Circumcision with a small flint knife, while St. Joseph recited the ritual prayer:

“Blessed be Jehovah the Saviour.  He [has] sanctified His well-beloved from the womb of His mother and [has] written the Law in our flesh. He [has] signed His Son with the sign of His Covenant, that He may impart to Him the blessings of Abraham our father.”

As usual, His holy Mother perceived and felt all that He was doing and suffering, and she too wept. When the rite was over, in mutual love and compassion the Child clung to His Mother while she tenderly caressed and comforted Him she wrapped Him again in His swaddling clothes.

…the priest [then] asked the parents what name they wished to give the Child. Both Mary and Joseph said at the same time: “Jesus is His name!”

Profoundly moved and shedding tears of supernatural joy, the priest inscribed the Holy Name on a parchment register. And under the inspiration of divine grace, he exclaimed:

“I am convinced that this Child is to be a Prophet of the Lord!  Take great care in raising Him….”

Behold the wonder of God!

Behold the wonder of God!

The ceremony being completed, Joseph and Mary…offered a light meal to the priest… and some candles as a gift…When the Holy Family was alone again, as the Infant Jesus was crying from pain, Mary withdrew to the end of the grotto with Him, and, sitting down, she lowered her veil and soothed Him by nursing Him, weeping quietly as she did.

That night Jesus’ pain was so severe that He could not rest… So Mary and Joseph took turns walking up and down the grotto with Him.

A few days later, St. Elizabeth came with an old servant to pay the Holy Family a visit. Mary was overjoyed [and] affectionately embraced her cousin…Elizabeth wept as she reverently [held] the Infant Jesus [in her arms].

The Blessed Virgin told her cousin all that she and St. Joseph had experienced, and when she described the trouble they had in finding lodging, St. Elizabeth wept a great deal. And after the Mother of God had told St. Elizabeth about the miraculous birth of her Son, Elizabeth said to her: “The birth of my John was indeed quite painless, but it certainly was very different.”

And I will establish My covenant between Me and you [Abraham] and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. ~Gen 17:7

This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.

He that is eight days old among you shall be circumcised; every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house, or bought with your money from any foreigner who is not of your offspring, both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money, shall be circumcised.

So shall my covenant be in your flesh an everlasting covenant. Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.” ~Gen 17:10-14

And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. ~Genesis 21:4

Hear the words of the LORD…

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on August 11, 2012

2Chron 7:14

Evening Prayer: Wednesday, Week II: (emphasis added)

Antiphon 1: Eagerly we await the fulfillment of our hope, the glorious coming of our Savior

Psalm 62

In God alone is my soul at rest; my help comes from Him.  He alone is my ROCK, my stronghold, my fortress: I STAND FIRM.

How long will you all attack one man, to break him down, as though he were a tottering wall, or a tumbling fence?

“In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill…”~Alexander King & Bertrand Schneider. The First Global Revolution, p. 75, 1993: The Great Culling, Mark Mallett

Their plan is ONLY TO DESTROY; they take pleasure in lies.  With their mouth they utter blessing, but in their heart(s) they curse.

“Society globally has to collectively decide that we need to drastically lower our population very quickly. More of us need to move to optimal areas at higher density and let parts of the planet recover…” ~ Arne Mooers, June 11th, 2012: The Great Culling, Mark Mallett

In God alone be at rest, my soul; for my HOPE comes from HIM.  He alone is my ROCK, my stronghold, my fortress: I STAND FIRM.

In God is my safety and glory, the rock of my strength.  Take refuge in God, all you people.  TRUST HIM at ALL TIMES.  Pour out your hearts before Him, for God IS our REFUGE.

Common folk are only a breath, great men an illusion.  Place in the scales, they rise; they weigh less than a breath.

[To the World’s Leaders]

Do not put your trust in oppression, no vain hopes on plunder.  Do not set your heart on riches, even when they increase.

For God has said only one thing:  Only two do I know: That to GOD ALONE belongs POWER, and to You, LORD, LOVE; and that YOU REPAY each man according TO HIS DEEDS.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is NOW, and EVER SHALL BE, world without end.  Amen!

Antiphon 1: Eagerly we await the fulfillment of our HOPE, the GLORIOUS coming of our Savior.

READING: from the first letter of St. Peter: 1Peter 5: 5b – 11 (emphasis added)

[Brothers and Sisters in Christ], in your relations with one another, clothe yourselves with humility, because God “is stern with the arrogant but to the humble, He shows kindness.”  Bow humbly under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may lift your high.

Cast ALL YOUR CARES on Him because He CARES FOR YOU.

STAY SOBER and ALERT.  Your opponent [Satan] the devil is prowling like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  RESIST him, SOLID IN YOUR FAITH, realizing that the brotherhood of believers is undergoing the same suffering throughout the world.

The God of all grace, who CALLED YOU to His everlasting GLORY in CHRIST, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish those WHO HAVE SUFFERED a little while.

DOMINION BE HIS throughout the ages!  Amen.

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

Week III: Sunday (Saturday Evening): Evening Prayer I: RESPONSORY

– Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate Your works, O Lord. (repeat)

We praise the wisdom which wrought them all,
– as we contemplate Your works, O Lord
.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
– Our hearts are filled with wonder as we contemplate Your works, O Lord.

Week III: Sunday (Saturday Evening):

READING: from the letter to the Hebrews 13: 20-21 (emphasis added)

May the God of peace, who brought up from the dead, the great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, Jesus our Lord, furnish you with all that is good, that you may do His Will.

Through Jesus Christ may He carry out in YOU all that is PLEASING to HIM.  To CHRIST be GLORY FOREVER!  Amen.

The Word of the Lord… Thanks be to God!

Put on the ARMOR of GOD!

Got Jesus in YOUR Boat?

Safe Harbor
