A Reflection on a reflection…

Reflection: Acts 28:16-20, 30-31 : Word Among Us, Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Occasionally I find passages within the daily reflections that I read that seem to “jump off the page” at me.  This post is one of those occasions.   If you desire to read the entire reflection, just follow the link on the sidebar to Word Among Us, choose Meditations, and then enter the above date in the required field.

We begin with…

Paul’s spiritual maturity was not something he achieved overnight but the fruit of a lifetime lived for Christ.”

To truly claim to be a Lover of God, one must be willing to TRUST ENTIRELY in Him in ALL circumstances and situations.

“Through his willingness to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and follow wherever Jesus led him, Paul saw his faith deepen and become steadier…[through] decades of obedience and perseverance.”

Faith increases when it is used.  Faith can only be used when the “user” knows and understands what they need.  This knowing and understanding only comes from God – by the gift of the Holy Spirit who knows the mind of God (cf 1 Cor2:10).

“We, too, have to take one step at a time, and those steps may be painful! … God is working His purpose in our lives!”

The term “growing pains” is not just analogous to youth becoming adults, but also to those “young” in their faith and who desire to mature in that faith.  For faithfulness, whether in marriage, in friendship, or with God, is practiced on a daily basis – moment by moment – with many successes but also with many failures.  Yet, without these failures, one cannot learn, one cannot change, one cannot grow.  By trying and failing we can “see” ourselves in the truest sense.  “What did I do wrong?” or “What can I do differently next time?” These questions and others like, it allow our broken selves to reach out and stretch for the answers provided for by God’s inexhaustible GRACE.  This grace then begins to fill in the gaps created by our stretching, and hardening into solid mass, the grace forms a “bone-like-structure” that allows us to “grow taller” in our Faith.  If we really allow ourselves to be broken – completely  broken – then God’s GRACE can fill us even more.  This literally means the miraculous is at work within us, and pretty soon we begin to understand the mind of God (in so much as our humanity allows) because the Holy Spirit resides with in us!

“We’re…‘saints under construction’…”

You read correctly!  God’s grace can only sanctify us more and more each time we allow Him in.  The more sanctification we can receive while on earth, the closer we are to heaven.  The saints reign in heaven with Jesus the King and we on earth are called to this same inheritance.  Wouldn’t it be lovely to receive that inheritance immediately upon entering eternal life?  Inheritance comes to those who are ready to receive it.

…we have to take one step at a time…”

Rome was not built in a day, and neither are saints, “Unhappy saints are lost from the beginning.”

“…spiritual maturity [is achieved over] a lifetime lived for Christ.”

Day by day, moment by moment, and step by careful step we make our way through this world to the gates of our Heavenly inheritance promised to us by our King.  With God’s continuous Love and outpouring of Grace, we are made able and ready to receive His Son’s gift upon entering eternity.
