Evidence…Choices Part II

A notorious robber, murderer and rebel of the time of Christ. The name means, curiously, “son of the father”.  In accordance with what was apparently a custom of the festive season of the Passover, Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, offered to release one prisoner from jail at the request of the people, offering them their choice between Christ and Barabbas. Contrary to Pilate’s expectations, the people chose Barabbas. The incident is mentioned by all four Evangelists (Matt. 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; Luke 23:17-25; John 18:39-40).  ~Dictionary of the Bible; Welcome to the Catholic Church, CD-ROM, 2007.
