Living in the Two Hearts

My Spiritual Insights and Musings

A town in Lower Galilee, the home of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. It was situated north of the Plain of Esdrelon (which see), on a hill overlooking a valley (Luke 4:28). Due to its small size and slight importance, this village is not mentioned outside the Gospels.

Yet here the Angel Gabriel visited the Virgin Mary to announce the birth of Christ (Luke 1:26). Here, too, Christ spent the 30 years of His hidden life, so that later He was called Jesus of Nazareth. However, after entering upon His public ministry, Christ returned to Nazareth only rarely, because the people did not believe in Him (Luke 4:8-31). The modern city of en-Nasirah occupies a site higher up the hillside than that of ancient Nazareth.
