Check-up…How’s It Going?

Well, it’s been a few days since Lent began…So how’s it going?

Declare your sins to one another,  and pray for one another…

In other words, admit your fault and ask for forgiveness from the one you have wronged…

… that you may find healing.  The fervent petition of a holy man is powerful indeed. ~James 5:16, Evening Prayer, Friday after Ash Wednesday, Christian Prayer, 1976.

For this is the time of Renewal through penance, fasting, and alms-giving.  We need to heed the words of the Prophet who spoke:

Wash yourselves clean!  Put away your misdeeds from before My eyes; cease doing evil; learn to do good.  Make justice your aim; redress the wronged, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.  Come now, let us set things right, says the Lord. Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; though they be crimson red, they may become white as wool. ~Isaiah 1:16-18, Morning Prayer, Saturday after Ash Wednesday, Christian Prayer, 1976.

By GIVING UP our sinful habits and by putting on the LIGHT OF CHRIST, what the Prophet proclaims is TRUE and AVAILABLE TO ALL who would come to Him with a repentant heart.  For as the Psalmist says,

The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit…

That is you have lost the sin of PRIDE…

… a broken and contrite heart, O God, Thou will not despise. ~ Psalm 51:17

So back to the first question.  How’s it going?  Are you…

“[finding] yourself DOING that very thing[?]… STOP! … take a deep breath and repeat: God, BLESS me and make me HOLY. Do this EVERY TIME you catch yourself doing that ONE thing.  Don’t worry about the other four, those will be tackled as the 40 days continue.  For THIS WEEK, (week 1 of Lent), focus only on this ONE (1) thing and repeat: God, BLESS me and make me HOLY every time you find yourself falling into doing that one thing.”

If you are, give yourself a pat on the back. Good job, keep up the excellent work!  If you are struggling to remember, just keep at it! Holiness is not achieved in a day.  Often times it takes a lifetime work to achieve even an ounce of Holiness.  But when that ounce IS ACHIEVED… WOW!  Such graces that flow, such LOVE that comes unabated from the Father…

When you’re not living in a life of sin, grace flows easily between the soul and heaven, because there’s nothing there to prevent it!  The heart is open and yearning for Holiness!!!

Also, a peace and calm,

…which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:7

This will envelope you in a way that cannot be adequately explained by this unworthy servant.  All I can say, when the world is in the midst of its upheaval, though the servant is aware of all that is going on, there is no anxiety about the future because the servant’s mind is so focused on Christ; And that servant KNOWS that Christ has the final victory!  Mankind must reap what it has sown, the culture of Death, so that God can purify and replant the seeds of LOVE.

Always REMEMBER, Satan’s time is short, and he knows this.  Thus the darkness will come to the point of seeming like it will never end but God has promised:

I am with you ALWAYS, until the end of the age. ~Mt 28:20b

He will NOT abandon us.  Instead, He calls us BACK TO HIMSELF, as He is doing in a more extraordinary way during this grace-filled time of Lent.  DO NOT WAIT.  This time WILL NOT REPEAT itself.  Though God is present in eternity, we (Mankind) are only present is THIS MOMENT.  THIS MOMENT IS UNREPEATABLE.

Submit to God; resist the devil and he will take flight.  Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you.  Cleanse your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, you backsliders.  Begin to lament, to mourn, and to weep…

Our sins are so many and so horrible…

Let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into sorrow…

If we truly recognize our sinfulness, then sadness for offending our Maker should be our reaction…

Be humbled in the sight of the Lord and He will raise you on high. ~James 4: 7-10, Evening Prayer, Thursday after Ash Wednesday, Christian Prayer, 1976.
