The Tomb and the Resurrection…

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on May 24, 2010

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, indeed it cannot; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Any one who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through His Spirit which dwells in you.

So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh… but…by the Spirit [which] put to death the deeds of the body [so] you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. …it is the Spirit Himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him. ~ Romans 8: 5-12, 14-17 ~ Pentecost Sunday, May 2010

This is a continuation from a the previous posts.  Just a reminder: any words in italicized black will be the scripture reference.  Any comments of my own will appear in teal, and as usual, the Stations and bullets will remain blue and purple.

XIV  Jesus Is Placed in the Tomb

  • Antichrist is permitted to wage war on Elijah and Enoch
    • Which leads to their deaths

And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends from the bottomless pit will make war upon them and conquer them and kill them, and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is allegorically called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.  For three days and a half men from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth. ~Rev 11: 7-10

And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another… After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrible and dreadful and exceedingly strong; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns… As I looked, this horn made war with the saints, and prevailed over them… ~Dan 7: 3, 7, 21

But this is not the final word!

  • Like Our Savior, Jesus the Christ, who died and was placed in a tomb
  • Death could NOT contain Him
    • So shall it be for these Servants of God

But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up hither!” And in the sight of their foes they went up to heaven in a cloud. ~Rev 11: 11-12

  • Then, they also will then ascend into heaven and all “hell will break loose” upon the unrepentant earth

And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven. The second woe has passed; behold, the third woe is soon to come. ~Rev 11: 13-14

Meaning?  Mankind will now have to face the final judgment of God.  Those who had possessed the land and made evil good and good evil will be gathered from the ends of the earth…

How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.’ But you are brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the Pit.

Those who see you will stare at you, and ponder over you: ‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?’

All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb; but you are cast out, away from your sepulcher, like a loathed untimely birth, clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword, who go down to the stones of the Pit, like a dead body trodden under foot.

You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, you have slain your people. ~Isah 14: 12-20

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against Him who sits upon the horse (cf. Rev 19: 11-16) and against His army.

And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had worked the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulphur. And the rest were slain by the sword of Him who sits upon the horse, the sword that issues from His mouth (cf. Rev 19: 15); and all the birds were gorged with their flesh. ~Rev 19: 19-21

And will God’s people begin to renew the face of the earth?  Will they preach like never before?  When I began this reflection, the very first post alludes to an “Era of Peace”.  Many Church Fathers and modern day writers and observers of the Church today have speculated on what this is.

All we truly can be sure of is what scripture tells us about this great evangelization:

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come. ~Mt 24:14

Though I had referred to this scripture passage in Station V, I am reminded that God is NOT LINEAR.  He does not just see what is “in front of Him”.  He IS Omnipresent and sees time as a whole – past, present, and future.  There is no definition, no line between the “times”, something that finite creatures, such as myself, cannot grasp clearly.   Thus being as it is, a time of great evangelization can occur more than once, giving God the maximum opportunity for reaching souls before it becomes TOO LATE.

When that “second death” occurs, it will be TOO LATE (cf. Rev 20: 7-16). Therefore, WE MUST BE READY.  As I write this, the scripture passage below takes on a whole new dimension and makes even more sense why we MUST WATCH AND PRAY,  PREPARING US FOR WHAT LIES IMMEDIATELY AHEAD.

Your country lies desolate, your cities are burned with fire; in your very presence aliens devour your land; it is desolate, as overthrown by aliens. And the daughter of Zion is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.

If the LORD of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.  Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!…

“When you come to appear before Me, who requires of you this trampling of my courts? Bring no more vain offerings; incense is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath and the calling of assemblies– I cannot endure iniquity and solemn assembly.

Your new moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; they have become a burden to Me, I am weary of bearing them. When you spread forth your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before My eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.  If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

Isaiah 1: 7-10, 12
