2 Peter 1:16-19

Happy Feast Day of the Transfiguration!

Today’s Reading is so fitting for the confusion (which is NOT of God) that is running rampant in today’s world.

1 Peter 1:16-19, 20-21 (additional)

16 [Beloved]…we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For when He received honor and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we heard this voice borne from heaven, for we were with Him on the holy mountain.

19 And we have the prophetic word made more sure. You will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,…

Which is why we cannot rely on every one who claims visions or locutions from our Lord or the Blessed Virgin.  If indeed a message of prophecy has come to one for the whole world, then that message would be supported by Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture and the teaching Magisterium of the Church…

21 because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

10 God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. 11 For what person knows a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God…13And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit. ~1Cor 2:10-11, 13

God DOES NOT contradict Himself.  Messages from Him may contain warnings because of our sins and the need to make amends, but it is ALWAYS accompanied by HOPE.  The Love and Mercy of God is UNFATHOMABLE! St. Paul reminds all of us:

17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.

19 For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you wise as to what is good and guileless as to what is evil; 20 then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
