Who are the Arrogant?

Posted by Anne Elizabeth on April 17, 2009

To be Arrogant is: to be full of insolent pride, to be intolerable and overbearing. They who are Arrogant are often also presumptuous. A lot of volatile words in this definition; and not a single one of them have any positive connotation attached to it.  This then tells us those who are Arrogant or suffer from this manner reflect very much the one who embodies all these negative qualities – Satan.

Examples of arrogant pride are found throughout the OT writings, and give us all fair warning as to why we should avoid this which leads to serious sin:

A man’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor. ~ Proverbs 29:23

“Scoffer” is the name of the proud, haughty man who acts with arrogant pride. ~ Proverbs 21:24

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ~ Proverbs 16:18

Let the lying lips be dumb, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt.

~Ps 31:18

In the pride of his countenance the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” ~ Ps 10:4

Who were the Arrogant during Jesus’ time?  Those in authority who did not wish to recognize Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God.  Throughout the NT Gospel writings, we see examples of their arrogant attempts to trap Jesus with words (cf Mk 12: 14-17; Mt 21: 23-27); to accuse Jesus of breaking the Sabbath by actions (cf Mt 12: 9-14; Jn 8: 2-11); or by intimidating others to denounce Jesus by threats of turning them out of the Temple (Jn 9: 5-34). But with each new attempt, their plots and schemes erupted in their faces and all their plans fell flat.

Those who participate in such actions are following the author of sin and death.  Jesus says, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I came not of my own accord, but He sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies…He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God. ~ Jn 8: 42-44, 47

Today, in our world, the Arrogant say, “There is no God.”  “This man, Jesus, is a fictitious character made in the warped minds of those who need to follow someone.” Or…

“He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him come down now from the Cross, and we will believe in Him. He trusts in God; let God deliver Him now, if He desires Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.”

Gosh! Does that sound familiar? Imagine their surprise when Jesus rose from the dead…

“…some of the guards went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sum of money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor‘s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and did as they were directed; and this story has been spread among the Jews to this day…” ~Mt 28: 11-15

Imagine also their surprise when Jesus comes again, “…you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven… This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven.” ~ Mt 26: 64b; Acts 1:11b

Ah!  But when Jesus does come again, He won’t be returning as a merciful savior, but as a Just Judge:

March 25, 1936: Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, said to St. Faustina, “Oh how pleasing to God is the soul that follows faithfully the inspiration of His grace!  I gave the Savior to the world; as for you, you have to speak to the world about His great mercy and prepare the world for the Second Coming of Him who will come, not as a merciful Savior, but as a Just Judge. Oh how terrible is that day!

This is why is it so utterly important for those who have seen themselves in the above passages, to REPENT of their arrogance and begin anew!

Jesus Christ IS the Son of God; He IS God, the Word made Flesh (Jn 1:14); the Second Person in the Holy Trinity.  He does NOT require our belief to exist for He existed before the world began (cf. John 17:5).  In fact, all that IS the world was created by Him (cf. John 1:2)!

To believe that we were created by NOTHING requires a HUGE STRETCH of the imagination.  Repent of your arrogance and BELIEVE before it is too late:

“Before the Day of Justice I am sending the Day of Mercy.” Faustina§1588

“He who refuses to pass through the door of My Mercy must pass through the door of My Justice.”  Faustina§1146
