…to repentance BEFORE it is TOO LATE…

Today’s post reflects on the first readings of daily Mass from this past Wednesday and Thursday.  I found them strikingly reflexive of one another and hope those who read this Post might agree. =-)

Jeremiah 18: 18-20; 17: 5-10 (Readings from Wed, Mar 11th, and Thur, Mar 12th)

18 Then they said, “Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah, for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not heed any of his words.”

5 Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, whose heart turns away from the LORD. 6 He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.

19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to my plea.  20 Is evil a recompense for good? Yet they have dug a pit for my life. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them.

7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. 8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it?

10 “I the LORD search the mind and try the heart, to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

What do you suppose God will do? Jeremiah continues… 18: 21-23 with the book of Revelation 6:1-4, 7-8, 12-17 supplying the answers…

21 Therefore deliver up their children to famine; give them over to the power of the sword, let their wives become childless and widowed.

…when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say, as with a voice of thunder, “Come!” 2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. ~ Rev 6:1-2

…their youths be slain by the sword in battle.

3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 And out came another horse, bright red; its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that men should slay one another; and he was given a great sword. ~Rev 6:3-4

May their men meet death by pestilence,…

7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 And I saw, and behold, a pale horse, and its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him; and they were given power over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth. ~Rev 6:7-8

22 May a cry be heard from their houses, when thou bringest the marauder [raider] suddenly upon them!

12 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale; 14 the sky vanished like a scroll that is rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

15Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and every one, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand before it?” ~Rev 6:12-17

42 Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. ~Mt 24:42-44

22(Jesus: ) And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. ~Mt 24:22

Have you felt the quickness of each day?  Wonder how you’ve gone from morning to night in almost ‘no time at all’?  The days most certainly have been shortened…

For they have dug a pit to take me, and laid snares for my feet.

23 Yet, thou, O LORD, knowest all their plotting to slay me. Forgive not their iniquity, nor blot out their sin from thy sight. Let them be overthrown before thee; deal with them in the time of thine anger.

He who refuses to pass through the door of My Mercy must pass through the door of My Justice.”~ Faustina§1146

“… Today I am sending you with My mercy to the people of the whole world. I do not want to punish aching mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to My Merciful Heart.  I use punishment when they themselves force me to do so;  My hand is reluctant to take hold of the Sword of Justice (cf. Rev 19:11-16).  Before the Day of Justice I am sending the Day of Mercy.” ~Faustina§1588

REMEMBER: 7 …we have this treasure (the light of God: Jesus Christ; received every time in the Eucharist) in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us.  8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. ~2Cor 4: 7-10
